v1.5 Released Early
The 90 device limit is about to be lifted, and v1.5 is being released early in preparation. Here is a partial list of improvements and fixes that have been added since 1.4.x. Due to the nature of upcoming offerings, it was necessary to break free of the SD card requirement and lay the foundation for “anonyomous” nodes.
SD cards are still required for T-Decks, but not for much longer. They are no longer required for nodes.
If you are already using SD cards in your devices, leave the SD cards in place. It is still preferred to utilize SD cards for a number of technical reasons, but for new devices, the choice is up to you. If you reboot one of your existing cards without an SD card, you’ll essentially be able to create a second device/cluster/etc that you access without an SD card. Rebooting again with your old SD card inserted will put you back again on the previous device/cluster.
Features
Ability to run without an SD card. If you have an SD card inserted, it will be preferred. If you boot without an SD card, onboard flash will be used instead.
T3S3 compatibility. This requires either a DS3231 (preferred) or GPS (less preferred). If you add a T3S3 with DS3231 to your cluster, it will double as a high precision time service for nearby devices. Build instructions will be coming.
Concept of Anonymous nodes. Currently, only anonymous firmware for T3S3 is available, but more options may be coming. More information will be forthcoming, as these will be a foundation for new capabilities coming very soon.
Fixes
If stuck waiting for GPS, automatically pull time from any nearby device
Eliminate most onboarding timeouts
Reduce time gaps that can become problematic between devices
Improve DM routing for certain cases where devices are mobile
Reduce bandwidth used by devices requesting public key sharing
More is Coming
Stay tuned, as a set of new and unprecedented products will be coming in the near future!
