ChatterBox is Now Free for the Open/Public Channel!
The Open Channels feature was added around a month ago. As of today, all ChatterBox firmware can freely use the public/open channel with no license fee. This means you can download the T-Deck firmware and node firmware for free and use the public channel for free on both communicators and nodes.
Open Channels are a way to allow you to communicate and share location using encryption, digital signatures, and confirmation that your broadcast has been picked up, without having to set up a cluster and onboard devices. Some of the advanced cluster features are not available, due to the anonymity and unlimited nature of channels.
The public open channel is shared channel that’s common across all devices. Because this free channel is public, your broadcasts are visible to anyone else running ChatterBox on the public channel within mesh range, so be aware of that.
If you decide to use the more advanced cluster-based features or want to create and use your own private channels, you’ll need to purchase an advanced communicator license after a trial period is expired.
All ChatterBox node firmware is free, even for private features.
